Class 10 girl found dead in a washroom in Kolkata

A class X girl was found dead in a washroom in a school in Kolkata, on Friday, with slit marks on her left wrist and a plastic bag tied to her head. The girl left the classroom for the washroom at 1:30pm, and a search party was initiated when she had not returned to class even after an hour.

The girl was among the good students in class, and was preparing to appear for ISI (Indian Statistical Institute) examinations.

The Kolkata Police as well as the Joint Commissioner of Police, Muralidhar Sharma reached the school premises immediately after the incident was reported, and examined the crime scene. Police have questioned students, school authorities and parents about the girl.

 “She was rushed to a nearby hospital where she was declared brought dead. We have seized a suicide note and blades. Her face was covered with a plastic sheet. It is too early to comment on the matter. All the seized items were sent for a postmortem examination. We are also examining the CCTV footage.” Sharma in a statement said. 

A few sheets of paper was found beside the body, a supposed suicide note. The forensic department is investigating over the handwriting, and the body of the girl has been sent for post-mortem.

The words, “I Quit” were found written on the walls where she was found dead.

The Suicide note suggested that the girl was under severe pressure over the last few months and that there was no one to blame for her actions. However, classmates reported that she showed no outward signs of stress.

The school where the incident took place on Friday, has been in a controversy last year, 2018 over the issue of two Physical Educations teachers had been arrested for allegedly molesting minor students inside the school.
