No, this malnourished man is not a former Sudanese minister; here’s the truth

Date:

A picture collage of a malnourished man along with a man in uniform is being shared on social media and the claims are being made that both the men are the same and he was the Home Minister of Sudan in 1995.

“वक्त हमेशा एक जैसा नहीं होता है साहब!
तेरा घमन्ड भी टूटेगा,😡

1995 मे सूडान का गृहमंत्री रह चुका है
इसको भी अपनी कुर्सी पर बहूत नाज़ था…” the text read.

FACT CHECK

When NewsMobile fact-checked the post, we found the claim to be fake.

On putting the image through Reverse Image Search, we found an article by Kenya Today dated March 2019, where the image of the malnourished man was featured. The title of the article read ‘SHAME: So sad indeed, people are dying of hunger in Turkana and Baringo’.

We also found another article in which the picture credit was given to Roncliffe Odit- BBC.

We investigated it further and found a BCC report and also a tweet by Roncliffe Odit with the caption ‘#WeCannotIgnore #BeyondPressConfrences #TurkanaDrought #KenyaDrought’.

This proves that the image of the malnourished man is from Kenya.

Moreover, when we checked the image of the man in uniform through Reverse Image search, we found that he is Lieutenant General Omar Zain al-Abdin, the head of the new Sudanese military council’s political committee. We found his image on Getty Images.

The above information proves that the two men are not the same and hence the posts are FAKE.
