Portuguese PM Antonio Costa on a two day visit to India from Dec 19

he Prime Minister of Portugal Antonio Costa will be visiting India from December 19 to the 20, on the invitation of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to attend the second meeting of the Organizing committee on the celebrations for the 150th anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.

This will be the Portuguese Prime Minister’s first visit to a foreign nation outside Europe after winning the recently concluded Portugal elections held on 6th October, 2019.

This will be the third meeting between the two Prime Ministers in a span of three years. The two leaders have also met at other multilateral forums during this period.

In recent times, the frequent high-level exchanges have led to enhance contact in the fields of Science and Technology, defence, start- ups, shipping, youth exchange and culture.

Portugal has also expressed its interest in participating in various developmental schemes launched by the government such as the ‘Smart Cities mission’.

The Portuguese Prime Minister is also an Overseas Citizen of India.

This visit will provide yet another opportunity to both leaders to keep up the high- level contact and expand areas of cooperation.
