The firsts of the firsts from 71st Republic Day Parade

Republic Day parade 2020, saw many events happening for the first time. Here is the list of all the events and occasions that happened for the first time on this Sunday,

1. PM’s visit to the National War Memorial

Normally, as per the protocol, the Prime Minister pays his respects to the “fallen soldiers” at the Amar Jyothi Jawan at India Gate.
However, this time around, he paid his respects at the National War memorial.

2. All men marching contingent led by a woman officer

The Indian Army’s Signal Corp’s Marching Contingent was led by Captain Tania Shergill. This is also the first time that a woman is leading an all men marching contingent during the Republic Day parade.

She is a fourth generation Army officer.

3. Display of the attack Helicopters

This is also for the first time that, attack Helicopters Chinook and Apache did a fly past the saluting dais.

4. CDS

This is also the first time the Chief of Defence Staff attended the Republic Day celebrations. The government had recently created the post of CDS and appointed General Bipin Rawat to the post.

5. Schedule on a tablet

The schedule planning, this time around was updated and distributed on a tablet, instead of the brochures. This will ensure that Paperless technology is used.

6. All women biker contingent of the CRPF

This is also the first time that an all women CRPF biker contingent drove past the Rajpath.
