China: Death toll from Coronavirus rises to 132; WHO issues precautionary measures

The death toll from the deadly Coronavirus rose to 132 and more than 6000 people have been infected by the virus, globally.

According to Chinese-state agency Xinhua, 769 new cases have been reported on Sunday.

WHO has issued advice to people as well as healthcare centres on how to protect themselves from new coronavirus (2019-nCoV) infection, as for any virus that spreads via the respiratory route.

The virus originated in Wuhan city of China in December and has since then has spread to various cities around the world.

Overseas, confirmed cases were reported in Thailand (7), Japan (3), the Republic of Korea (3), the United States (3), Vietnam (2), Singapore (4), Malaysia (3), Nepal (1), France (3) and Australia (4).

China has imposed quarantine and travel restrictions, affecting the movement of 56 million people in more than a dozen cities, amid fears that the transmission rate will accelerate as hundreds of millions of Chinese travel for the Lunar New Year.

Health authorities around the world are taking action to prevent a global pandemic as the virus continues to spread, with cases reported in Australia, France, the United States and seven Asian countries besides China. However, the World Health Organisation (WHO) has acknowledged that the respiratory illness, which has been traced to the city of Wuhan, is an emergency in China.
