Indian Ambassador to France Vinay Mohan Kwatra has been appointed on Thursday as the country’s next envoy to Nepal.

He has served earlier in Kathmandu, when he was posted at the SAARC secretariat as a representative of India. He dealt with trade, finance and economy bureau.

He is considered to be an expert on Multilateral diplomacy and is considered highly proficient in Hindi.

During his tenure, India’s relations with France expanded and the two countries became closer and shared the warmth that was missing earlier in the relations.

He also dealt with certain issues that threatened to rock the strategic ties between the two countries. The most important domestic issue that could have threatened the ties was the issue of the Rafale aircraft deal.

It was here that the role of a senior diplomat was needed and Vinay played a pro-active role and managed to sustain the ties smoothly.

He has earlier also served as the Joint Secretary in the Prime Minister’s Office and is said to enjoy the confidence of the Prime Minister.

His expertise will be required to steer the tumultuous Indo-Nepal ties towards the civilizational warmth that the two countries share.

In recent times, anti-India propaganda and issues related to the border dispute amongst other issues have threatened to bring the two nations close to mutual hatred.
