Did Sheila Dixit say that Arvind Kejriwal can ‘sell his mother for votes’? Here’s the truth

Date:

A picture of a news clipping is doing rounds on social media and it is being claimed that Sheila Dixit has allegedly said about Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal that he can ‘even sell his mother for votes’.

” केजरीवाल वोट के लिए अपनी माँ को भी बेच सकता है: शीला दीक्षित ” – the headline of the article reads.

FACT CHECK

We checked the above post and found it to be fake.

We notice that in the article, the statement regarding Kejriwal has a different font than the rest of the article.

We extracted the first few lines of the article using the Goggle lens and ran a Google search using those keywords.

The search result led us to an article published by Aaj Tak on March 15, 2019, where  Dixit made a remark on Prime Minister Narendra. ” शीला बोलीं- आतंक पर मोदी की तरह सख्त नहीं थे मनमोहन, फिर दी सफाई, ” the headline of the article read.

( Translation – Sheila Dixit said that Manmohan Singh was not as tough as PM Narendra Modi against terrorism, then clarifies )

We noticed that barring that one line on Kejriwal, the rest of the article was the same.

We also searched the internet and did not find any news article to support the viral claim

Hence, the above information proves that the quote attributed to Sheila Dixit is false.
