India and US have on Tuesday decided to elevate their partnership into a Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership. The ties will focus on defence, security, technology, energy, trade and people to people ties amongst others.
This is a significant development that will have far reaching impact on not just the relations between the two countries, but the entire region and beyond.
The two nations also signed MoU’s:
1. Agreement between the Department of Health and Family welfare of India and Department of Health and Human Services of the US,

2. Safety of medical and pharmaceutical products,
3. Letter of understanding to import LNG between the Indian Oil Corporation and Exxonmobil.
The two nations have also reached a defence agreement and India will soon acquire the MH-60 Multi-Combat helicopters, the Romeo Helicopters and more number of Apache helicopters from the US.
In a joint statement issued, the two leaders also lashed out at Pakistan for its support to state sponsored terrorism and vowed to counter their designs. An agreement was reached on Homeland Security cooperation in this regard. As part of the agreement, the two nations will also cooperate to control the menace of narco-terrorism and illicit drugs.
The energy cooperation between the two nations is at an all time high and the two nations have agreed to enhance it further.
The two nations also agreed to explore further cooperation in the field of social security related agreements, especially that related to the movement of ‘natural’ persons.
USIFDA has agreed to establish an office in Delhi to facilitate closer development partnership between the two nations, especially to enhance women entrepreneurship.
Finally, the two nations agreed to enhance their cooperation in the Indo-Pacific region and in a clear message to China, reiterated their commitment to a ‘rules based international order’ and sustainable finance.
