Iranian Vice-President tests positive for Coronavirus

Masoumeh Ebtekar, one of the four Vice-Presidents of Iran has tested positive for the Corona Virus disease.

The Vice-President is considered to be a confidante of President Hassan Rouhani and is presently dealing with the portfolio of Women’s affairs.

This information has been disclosed after the cabinet meeting she attended saw the attendance of most council of Ministers in Iran, including President Rouhani.

The Minister has been quarantined in her house in Tehran and is currently under observation.

However, it is unknown as to how the Minister contacted the virus and details regarding the same are awaited.

Iran has the greatest number of government officials who have been affected by this virus.

The virus has spread across Iran and the nation has registered 26 deaths and 245 cases as of Friday.

The government of India is monitoring the situation closely. They have also indicated that a rescue operation may be conducted if the situation demands one. India has already rescued many of its citizens from Japan and also from Wuhan in Hubei province of China. The latter is the epicentre of the Coronavirus.

Globally, the virus has claimed 2835 lives till date.
