COVID-19: 112 evacuees from Wuhan test negative after 14-day quarantine

The government on Friday announced that the second batch of 112 evacuees from Wuhan who had been rescued on February 27 and who had been lodged at the ITBP camp in Chawla near Delhi have tested negative for the second time and their dispersal has begun, after a quarantine period of 14 days.

This batch of 112 individuals includes 76 Indians and 36 foreign nationals.

The samples of these evacuees had been collected at their arrival and then finally before they were allowed to leave and both times, it tested negative.

The camp had been set up in a record time of 48 hours and had hosted the first batch of evacuees beginning from February 1, also for a period of 14 days.

Till date, a total of 518 people have been quarantined and tested at this facility.

Union Minister of State (Home) Nityanand Rai and DG (ITBP) SS Deshwal interacted with the patients and enquired about their welfare.

While, passengers from Diamond Princess cruise ship who were quarantined at Manesar tested negative too.

The Minister praised the force and other paramilitary forces for their response to the virus.

India has reported in a total number of 81 positive cases and one death.
