With the number of confirmed positive COVID-19 cases on a rapid rise in the country, the health ministry, the government and the concerned authorities are taking every possible measure to curb the spread at a larger scale.
The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) released a list of private laboratories to test people for COVID-19 and NewsMobile ran a fact-check to test the ground reality of the efficacy of the listed hospitals and their equipment.

The team of reporters at NewsMobile checked with the listed hospitals and investigated the availability and functioning of the services and it appears that the private labs have only been identified as of now, the testing hasn’t started in most of them.
- In Delhi, the testing kits haven’t come as of yet and there is a severe shortage.
Even though the list has come out, no private lab has started testing except for RML hospital.
The estimated cost of the swab test is Rs 4500/- and the labs are hopeful that the testing will start by the weekend.
A prescription of a physician is mandatory for the process for private testing.
- In Gujarat, the information was scarce except for the names being listed.
Unipath Speciality Laboratory in Ahmedabad says will take at least one week for the whole process to begin, beyond which the hospital was unable to quote anything.
- In Maharashtra, the hospitals are all on long holds on customer services lines in Mumbai and SRL hasn’t started yet and they are uncertain on the dates.
- We tried reaching to hospitals in Tamil Nadu and found out that CMC vellore has a dysfunctional phone number.
Meanwhile, Apollo said they are still figuring the process out and refused to give any further details at this stage.
