Did Priyanka, RaGa break lockdown regulations? Here’s the truth behind this viral video

Amid the nationwide lockdown due to the Coronavirus, a video is doing rounds on social media in which Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra can be seen in a car which is being surrounded by cops and a few people.

It is being claimed that the two senior leaders of the Congress were not abiding by the lockdown regulations as they were visiting a friend.

The caption of the video read: “This is Rahul Gandhi & Priyanka Gandhi breaking Lock-down Regulations saying they need to visit friends.”

The same video was posted by several other users with the same claim which can be seen here and here.

FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact-checked the above video and found that the claim attached to the video is FAKE.

On putting the keyframes of the video through Reverse Image Search, it was established that the video is from December 2019 when Rahul and Priyanka were headed to Meerut during anti-CAA protests.

On scanning through NewsMobile Archives, we found a report dated December 24, 2019, according to which ‘Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra were stopped outside Meerut by the police. They were on their way to meet families of those killed in violence that broke out during protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA)’.

Hence, the above information proves that the video in question is old and it has no connection with the lockdown.
