DIY and more! Tips to make COVID-19 lockdown meaningful

Date:

“Wash your hands for the amount of time you sing ‘happy birthday’ twice!”
“Avoid touching your face and unnecessary contact with others!”
“Do not step out of your house apart from emergencies!”

These are the kind of statements we hear everyday. Every news article, every news channel and every social media platform is blowing up with similar messages, and updates on coronavirus cases.

Schools, businesses, social events, you name it – they’ve all been shut down!

So, with so much spare time on our hands, what can we do?

I’ve recently been experiencing severe boredom, even though school has been continuing through Skype during the weekdays. That is why I made a to-do list! I made it my goal to have ticked every checkbox by the end of April!

Here are some ideas on what you can do when you are bored:

Learn a new skill – This is sure to take up a lot of the spare time you have, which is why it is a perfect option! There are so many things you can do, like sketching, coding, writing a poem, origami etc.

Pick up an instrument – It’s time to test your musical ability! Why not learn a new song or practice playing on an instrument? If you do not play any instruments, you can always look up tutorials or even consider joining an online class!

Make a blog/ website – This one is for all the creative minds! Do you need a place to collate all your poems or give tips on DIY art? Why not make a website or blog and share your views with the world?

Direct a short film/make a music video – If you are anything like me, you’re probably watching talented kids on YouTube all day and wistfully wishing you were famous. Well, here’s your chance! Gather all your family members, dogs, cats, pet goldfish – everyone – and put together a short skit or have them film you singing with an aesthetic background.

Find an interesting show to start binge watching – There are so many interesting movies and shows you can watch when you feel like having a lazy day! Are you in the mood for a musical or movie where kids just cannot seem to stay out of mischief? Make sure you are only glued to the screen for a healthy amount of time though!

There are so many other things you can do when you’re bored, so do not waste your time during the lockdown. Stay safe and avoid going out of your house or coming in contact with other people. Wash your hands regularly for 20 seconds each time and remember –

As John Lennon famously quoted
“Everything will be okay in the end, if it’s not, then it’s not the end”
