Key takeaways from Health Ministry daily briefing on COVID-19

In its daily media briefing, the Health Ministry on Wednesday said the total number of coronavirus cases has climbed to 11,439 and 377 deaths have been reported so far.

Here are the key takeaways from the briefing:

– Districts will be classified into three categories – hotspots, non-hotspot and green zone. Hot spots are districts with either more cases or faster doubling rate: Lav Agarwal Joint Secretary, Health Ministry.

– Proper identification, clinical management key in saving lives.

– 170 districts have been declared as hotspots and 260 districts as potential hotspots across India.

– No community transmission in India so far, there have been some local outbreaks.

– The movement will not be allowed in containment zones except for those related to essential services. Special teams will search for new cases and samples will be collected and tested as per sampling criteria.

– Health facilities in the buffer zone will be oriented and people facing SARS and influenza-like symptoms will be tested there; special teams working in the containment zone will do contact tracing and house-to-house survey.

– Besides health staff, services of local revenue and corporation staff and volunteers will also be utilized in the special teams which will do contact tracing, survey and surveillance.

– As per research in China, it was found that coronavirus might have originated due to mutation in bats. Bats might have transmitted it to pangolins, from pangolins it got transmitted to humans: R Gangakhedkar, ICMR

– Cases of fever, cough and breathlessness will be identified in the house-to-house survey and requisite action will be taken as per protocol
