The Union Home Ministry issued a note of clarification regarding the delivery of non-essential items by e-commerce firms and firmly prohibited such a service throughout the nation amid the lockdown.
“Supply of non-essential goods by e-commerce companies to remain prohibited during Lockdown 2 to fight COVID,” said a spokesperson of the Ministry of Home Affairs.

Earlier, the government had eased the restrictions on e-commerce firms and had said that the firms will be permitted to deliver even non-essential items to the areas not deemed to be containment zones. Many companies had made elaborate plans to deliver and even started taking orders.

Some states like Karnataka, Maharashtra and Odisha had made plans to kickstart the economy through e-commerce firms.
However, this note by the Union Home Ministry will seek to impart a note of caution in the fight against the deadly Coronavirus and prohibit non-essential deliveries.
The period of national lockdown initially enforced for 21 days has now been extended till May 3.
