The world is witnessing some really fast-paced developments related to COVID-19 as the figures clock new highs and the preparations for opening up certain countries receives a host of reactions.

Here are the top 10 global developments this Tuesday morning-

1. The total number of COVID-19 cases across the globe has now risen to 3,582,469 while the death toll stands at 251,562. On a positive note, 1,162,538 people have recovered from the disease.

2. United States coronavirus deaths rise by 1,015 in 24 hours, lowest in a month. The total number of cases now stands at 1,180,634 while the death toll stands at 68,934.

3. US researchers double death forecast, citing eased lockdowns: A newly-revised coronavirus mortality model predicts nearly 1,35,000 Americans will die from COVID-19 by early August, almost double previous projections, as social-distancing measures are relaxed.

4. US Treasury to borrow 3 trillion USD in second quarter to support the economy amid COVID-19 fallout.

US Treasury expects to borrow 2.999 trillion dollars in privately-held net marketable debt from April through June, assuming an end-of-June cash balance of 800 billion dollars, the department said in a statement.

5. China’s National Health Commission says the country found just one case of coronavirus on Monday, in someone who had returned from overseas. It also reported 15 asymptomatic cases of the disease.

There were no new deaths.

6. New Zealand has recorded no new coronavirus cases for the second day in a row.

7. Chinese state media calls Pompeo coronavirus claims ‘insane’.

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo speaking on Sunday, said ‘enormous evidence’ showed the virus originated in a lab in Wuhan, the central Chinese city where cases of the illness were first recorded, doubling down on previous claims from US officials and right-wing groups, which have been repeatedly denied by the World Health Organization (WHO) and various scientific experts.

China’s state broadcaster CCTV attacked recent remarks by Pompeo on the origins of the coronavirus pandemic, calling them ‘insane and evasive’.

8. Nepal’s new COVID-19 hotspot to be sealed for 3 days.

In order to avert further spread of COVID-19, the local authority of Banke District of Nepal has imposed complete restriction in movement inside Nepalgunj Sub- Metropolitan starting Tuesday.

The District Administration Office, Banke decision to impose complete restriction in Nepalgunj city comes after it reported 15 new cases of COVID-19 on Sunday.

9. Germany reports 685 new cases, 139 more deaths.

10. UK’s total number of cases stands at 191,832 with death toll at 28,809.
