As the country enters the third phase of the nationwide lockdown, several automotive manufacturers announced the plans of re-starting various plants across the country, including India’s largest automaker- Maruti Suzuki.
“Maruti Suzuki India Limited would re-start production of vehicles at its Manesar plant from May 12, 2020. All activities would be carried out strictly in accordance with the govt regulations”, announced Sanjeev Grover, Vice President & Company Secretary of Maruti Suzuki India Limited.
Earlier on Wednesday, the country’s largest carmaker said it has re-opened 600 dealerships which were closed due to the COVID-19 lockdown, and has even started deliveries of the vehicles.

Mercedes-Benz on Wednesday announced the restarting of production at its manufacturing facility at Chakan, Pune. The production has commenced in a graded manner following the directives from the Government of Maharashtra to reopen and resume operations. The production has begun with only the essential staff at the production facility.
Meanwhile, Isuzu Motors India has announced that the company will commence production once again at its manufacturing facility in SriCity, Andhra Pradesh. The company said that it has received approval from the authorities of the Chittoor district to restart operations. The automaker has begun preparations to restart activities at the plant and aims to start the supply of vehicles at the earliest, as per a statement by the company.
Manufacturer of two-wheelers and three-wheelers TVS Motor Company, which suspended operations at its plants in India and Indonesia after the nationwide lockdown that began on March 25, re-started its operations in India across all factories at Hosur in Tamil Nadu, Mysuru in Karnataka and Nalagarh in Himachal Pradesh on Wednesday.
The company has designed a comprehensive preparedness manual for the employees to ensure complete adherence to necessary safety guidelines to help minimise the spread of COVID-19 pandemic.
Royal Enfield as well, has resumed operations at its India with the Oragadam plant in Chennai. In addition, Royal Enfield has reopened about 120 dealerships pan India, and plans to increase that figure to 300 outlets by mid May. The dealers will follow social distancing norms and will also offer facilities like home test rides. The company has already extended warranty and free services for existing customers, for a period of two months.
