Fact Check: Black Panther was not spotted in Hyderabad, here’s the truth

Date:

A post is being shared on social media with a claim that a Black Panther was spotted in Golkonda, Hyderabad during the ongoing lockdown to contain CODIV-19.

The caption of the post read: “A Black Panther Spotted in Golkonda, Stay Safe !!! A black panther was spotted late night at Fathe Darwaza, Golkonda near Noorani Masjid. Request residents to stay safe and stay alert:”

FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact-checked the above claim and found it to be FAKE.

When we ran a Google search with the keywords ’Black Panther’, ”Golconda’ and ‘Hyderabad’, we found a tweet by the Hyderabad Police dated May 14, 2020.

The tweet read ‘Good Morning Sir, SHO Golconda replied that it is not Panther and it is Civet Cat. It was caught with the coordination of the Forest team and zoo staff and handed over to zoo park for safe custody’.

Hence, the above information proves that a Civet Cat was spotted in Golconda as opposed to a Black Panther as claimed in the viral post.
