Despite govt rules, Gurgaon school hikes fee; parents up in arms against school body

Date:

In a bizarre development, a well-known school in Gururgram—Suncity School- has reportedly asked its teachers to call up parents to cough up the school fee. This is in addition to brazenly hiking the school fee despite Haryana government’s directive to private schools, mandating that only tuition fee on a monthly basis be charged, for the time being.

Several parents spoke to NewsMobile on the condition of anonymity and said that they had already sought a rollback of the fee hike made for the current year. These parents also said that they had demanded a waiver of miscellaneous charges and have asked the school to only charge tuition fee. They have also asked the school to charge annual fee on a pro-rate basis once the school resumes operations.

In the wake of the COVID-19 lockdown, the Haryana government, in April, had directed private schools to only charge tuition fees on a per month basis for the time being from students. Other charges, like building and maintenance funds, admission fees, computer fees and any other fees were not to be charged. It was said that any school found violating these directions was liable to face action. Also, no school can strike off a child’s name due to non-payment of fees nor deny them access to online
education.

Despite these strict guidelines, the Suncity School has allegedly pre-advanced the date for fee submission even though the written document states otherwise. The parent community is up in arms with the school authorities over fee hike and waivers.

The parents have written numerous emails to the school authorities, but to no avail. They have even tweeted concerned government authorities in the state but have received no reply or help till date.

The school, in a notification, had stated that the last date to pay the fee is June 30 (according to a circular sent on April 13). But recently it started sending reminders to parents for fee payment in May itself.

Even teachers have now started calling up the parents telling them that if the fee is not paid by May 21, additional late payment charges will be levied.

NewsMobile reached out to Suncity School for a comment. A reply was awaited till the time of filing this report.
