Karnataka relaxes curfew for Sunday; six air passengers test positive in TN

While Kerala is active in supporting its residents who have been adversely affected by the shutdown, Andhra Pradesh has claimed that it is leading the country in terms of containing the virus.

Here are the top developments from Southern India today:

1. Karnataka relaxes ‘curfew’ like conditions for Sunday

Karnataka CM BS Yeddyurappa has announced that this coming Sunday, the state government will relax the guidelines related the curfew.

Last Sunday, the state government had imposed a curfew.

The CM said this is being done in the public interest.

2. Telangana CM urged to open up malls

The Hyderabad chapter of the Shopping Centre’s Association of India has urged the Telangana CM to grant permission to open up malls from May 31.

They highlighted the various issues and the mounting losses caused due to the lockdown on the retail sector in India and particularly Hyderabad.

They assured the government that all precautions related to social distancing will be followed religiously.

3. AP leading the country in COVID-19 strategy, CM tells Amit Shah

Andhra Pradesh CM YS Jagan Mohan Reddy told Union Home Minister Amit Shah that the state has been at the forefront of leading the fight against COVID-19 and has increased testing facilities and medical strategies.

He assured the Union Government that the state will keep up its fight against the virus.

4. 6 more air passengers test positive at Coimbatore

In a matter that is adding to the headache of the Tamil Nadu state government, 6 more passengers who arrived by air from New Delhi tested positive for COVID-19 at the Coimbatore airport. They have been quarantined now.

The state government had requested the Union government to not permit flight to land in the state till the time the situation improves.

5. Loans to be disbursed for tourism sector employees in Kerala

The Tourism department has announced that houseboat employees who are registered with the department will soon be provided loans amounting to Rs 20,000 each. About 50,000 employees will be eligible for this amount.

The Kerala bank will disburse these loans to those who have been affected because of the lockdown.
