Will invite India for the G-7 summit: Trump

Date:

US President Donald Trump announced that he will invite India, amongst other nations, to attend the G-7 summit scheduled to be held later in 2020.

The summit that was to have been held in the second half of June, has now been postponed due to the ongoing situation created due to COVID-19. More than 1 lakh people have died in the US.

Trump said that along with India, he also hopes to invite Russia, South Korea and Australia.

He said that the G-7 in its current form is a “very outdated group of countries”.

He added: “I’m postponing it because I don’t feel that as a G-7 it properly represents what’s going on in the world”.

At present, the G-7 is made up of the following nations: US, Italy, Japan, Canada, France, Germany, Britain as well as the European Union.

Russia, a key member, was expelled for its actions in the Crimean region.

According to many experts, Trump is keen to build this body that would raise its voice against Chinese aggression and would effectively build an alliance against the nation that has been accused of many wrong doings with respect to the COVID-19 crisis.
