Army officer, two soldiers killed in violent face-off on China border; casualties on both sides

Three Indian soldiers, including a commanding officer, have been killed in a “violent face-off” with Chinese soldiers during the de-escalation process with China in Galwan Valley, Ladakh, on Monday night, Indian Army said in a statement.

Both sides have suffered casualties in the violent face-off. “Casualties suffered on both sides in ‘violent face-off’ during de-escalation process with China in Galwan Valley, Ladakh,” an official statement said.

As per news agency AFP, Beijing has accused India of crossing border and ‘attacking Chinese personnel’.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh held a meeting with Chief of Defence Staff, General Bipin Rawat, the three service chiefs and External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar regarding this. Recent developments in Eastern Ladakh were discussed, news agency ANI has reported.

Tensions between the two armies have been running high on the border since reports of a scuffle, between the soldiers of both sides, at Pangong Tso (eastern Ladakh) and Naku la (in Sikkim) came in early last month.
