COVID-19 | Top 10 developments in India this Wednesday

India reported its highest ever single-day spike of 2003 COVID-19 death, taking the toll to 11,903 on Wednesday.

While 10,974 fresh cases reported in the last 24 hours. The COVID-19 infections in the country rose to 3,54,065, including 1,55,227 active cases and 1,86,935 recoveries.

Here are the top 10 developments in India this Wednesday:

1. Prime Minister Narendra Modi held the second round of meeting with the Chief Ministers today to discuss the road ahead amid coronavirus pandemic.

2. A day after his first test results came out to be negative, Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain tested positive for coronavirus on Wednesday. AAP MLA Atishi has also tested positive for the virus.

3. From 18 June, tests will be done via new Rapid Antigen methodology approved by ICMR. Delhi would be given priority for these kits. 169 centers have also been set up across Delhi: Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA)

4. Maharashtra reported 3,307 new COVID-19 positive cases and 114 deaths today, taking the total number of positive cases and deaths to 1,16,752 and 5651, respectively: State Health Department

5. Tamil Nadu crossed 50,000 mark with 2,174 new COVID-19 cases today, taking the total number of cases to 50,193. Death toll rises to 576 after 48 deaths were reported today: State Health Department

6. With the spike of 126 new COVID-19 positive cases in Punjab today, the total number of positive cases rise to 3,497: State Health Department

7. 108 new cases have been reported from Jammu and Kashmir; 27 from Jammu division and 81 from Kashmir division. Total number of cases stands at 5,406: Government of J&K

8. The Supreme Court on Wednesday pulled up the Delhi government over the suspension of healthcare workers for exposing facts related to the condition in hospitals while saying that doctors and nurses were “corona warriors” and needed to be protected.

9. Karnataka detects 204 new COVID-19 positive cases and 8 deaths from 5 pm of June 16 to 5 pm of June 17, taking the total number of positive cases and deaths to 7,734 and 102 respectively: State Health Department

10. 27 fresh COVID-19 cases have been reported in Goa today; taking the total number of cases to 656. Number of active cases stands at 560: Directorate of Health Services, Goa
