Fact Check: Farmers Didn’t Storm RSS Headquarters Over Farm Laws; Here’s The Truth

Date:

A video is being shared on social media claiming that farmers stormed Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) headquarters in Nagpur to protest against the three newly enacted Farm Laws.

A Facebook user shared the video with a Hindi caption, “अचानक RSS मुख्यालय पर किसानों ने धावा बोल दिया फिर हो गया बवाल !!”

(Translation: Farmers have suddenly stormed the RSS headquarters, following which a ruckus erupted!!)

Here’s the link to the above post. You can check similar posts here, here and here.

We found the same video on YouTube as well which was shared by a channel named Online News Media.

FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact-checked the video and found that the claims being made with the video to be false.

Firstly, on closely watching the video, we found that people are holding flags of Congress party and Youth Congress.

Moreover, a person can be seen holding a board which says Nagpur City Youth Congress. Therefore, it is evident that people in the video are not farmers and are Congress party workers.

On investigating further, we found a New Indian Express report stating that Congress workers had staged a protest against the new Farm laws outside Hedgewar Smriti Bhavan premises in the Reshimbaug area on January 12, following which a case for unlawful assembly and other offences was registered against them.

We also found a news article by NDTV India on the same issue with the title “RSS मुख्यालय के बाहर प्रदर्शन करने को लेकर कांगेस कार्यकर्ताओं के विरूद्ध मामला दर्ज” (Translation: Case against Congress workers for protesting outside RSS premises)

During our research, we also found a tweet by National President of Indian Youth Congress, urging its party workers to protest against BJP MPs by clanging utensils.

Hence from the above information, it is clear that people in the video are not farmers but Congress party workers.
