FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact-checked the above post and found the claim to be false.

When we put the picture through Reverse Image Search, we found a video report by Aaj Tak on YouTube on May 9, 2014, featuring the same picture. The title of the video read, ‘Modi touches feet of a Muslim freedom fighter’.

According to the video, the picture was taken at a time when Narendra Modi honoured Nizamuddin on the stage during an election rally in Varanasi. Nizamuddin, also known as ‘Colonel Nizamuddin’, was a member of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose’s Azad Hind Army and he served as his guard and driver.

We also found a report by The First Post dated May 9, 2014, with the same picture. The report stated that Narendra Modi honoured him by touching his feet when he came on stage during a rally.

According to a report by Zee News, Nizamuddin died in Mubarakpur in Azamgarh in February 2017 and at that time he was 117 years old.

On his demise in 2017, PM Modi shared the same photo and paid tribute to him.

Therefore, the above information proves that the picture in question is old and is not recent.
