March has just begun but temperatures are already soaring northwards. In the summer forecast report for March to May1, the Indian Meteorological Department has predicted that the day temperature is likely to be above normal in north, northeast, parts of east and west India.
The meteorologists also said that this year there is a high chance that people will witness scorching heat as temperature will remain above normal this year.
The IMD released a statement on Monday in which they said that the temperature from March to May are likely to be above the seasonal maximum temperatures in the subdivisions of north, northwest, and northeast India, few subdivisions from eastern and western parts of central India, and few coastal subdivisions of north peninsular India.
However, the temperature in the south and central India is likely to be normal.

In the last week, regions around Delhi and North-West India recorded maximum temperatures, which were five to six degrees above normal for this time of the year. “In the coming days also we expect it to remain the same, around March 1 and 2 there is expected to be a slight fall due to a western disturbance which is presently affecting the north western Himalayan region,”Additional Director General of India Meteorological Department (IMD) Anand Sharma said.
Wind direction might change and we might get northwesterly winds from the mountains which might lower temperature a bit, he said.
“If you talk about temperatures, especially in NW India, even in Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, west MP, all these are above normal temperatures. In Delhi, the temperature was observed 8 degrees higher above normal, the maximum temperature reached about 33.2 degree Celsius,” he added.
