Date:

The inspiring journey of a young man, making his way from a small shanty to one of the most prestigious educational institutes of the country will melt your heart. This is the story of Ranjit Ramachandran, who braved all obstacles thrown by life in his way and came out bright and victorious.

Ranjit Ramachandran, now an Assistant Professor at IIM Ranchi was once a night watchman at a BSNL telephone exchange in Kerala.

His remarkable journey caught everyone’s attention after he posted the picture of the house where he used to live before becoming a professor and it went viral. Finance Minister T M Thomas Isaac also took to Facebook to congratulate Ramachandran, lauding him as a source of inspiration to everyone.

“An IIM professor was born here,” Ranjith Ramachandran captioned the picture of his house posted on Facebook. The picture of the worn off house, with a tarpaulin sheet has inspired several others to chase their dreams by fighting all odds.

In the post, 28-year-old Ramachandran described his struggles and wrote, “There was a point when I was about to quit my studies to support my family. But instead of giving up, I picked a temporary job at the nearest BSNL telephone exchange as a night watchman.”

Ranjith mentions in the post that his job paid him Rs 4,000 every month. But he never gave up on the struggle, he joined the BA Economics course in Pious tenth College.

He used to spend nights on end at the telephone exchange, to ensure there is no power outage.

Ranjith hustled for five years until he completed his post-graduation from the Central University of Kerala. Graduating with honours, he got into IIT, Madras, where he found it difficult to study as he knew only Malayalam. Yet, he refused to give up and completed his PhD.

“I decided to fight and realise my dream,” he wrote.

He earned his doctorate last year and worked as an Assistant Professor at Christ University, Bengaluru for the last two months, before joining IIM in April.

His father is a tailor and his mother, a daily wage worker under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme.
