Date:

Following Trinamool Congress’ landslide victory in West Bengal state assembly elections, a video of people celebrating with guns and swords is being shared on social media.

In the background, a remix of TMC’s campaign song ‘Khela Hobe’ can be heard.

“TMC’s post result celebration…,” the Facebook post read.

The above post can be seen here.

FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact-checked the post and found the claim to be false.

We extracted keyframes from the video and them put them through Reverse Image Search. The search on Yandex, a Russian search engine, led us to a YouTube link with the same video. However, in the video uploaded on September 2020, the background music was different.

The same video was also uploaded on YouTube in October 2020 with different background music. “Gun dance WhatsApp status |gangster dance | new gun badmashi status | new WhatsApp status,” the headline read.

Priti Gandhi, social media in-charge of BJP Mahila Morcha also shared the same video on Twitter. Replying to her, Kolkata Police called out the fake post.

#FakeNewsAlert A doctored video is doing the rounds on Social Media, which has been falsely attributed to the post poll scenario in West Bengal. Legal action has been initiated,” they tweeted.

Hence the fact check proves that an old video, which was in existence in September 2020 and before the results of the West Bengal assembly elections were declared, has been manipulated and shared with a false claim.
