Bidens Welcome Willow; The White House Has The “First Cat”

Date:

Willow, the newest resident, the ‘Frist Cat’ has been welcomed by President Joe Biden, First Lady Jill Biden, and the White House.

First Lady Jill Biden announced family has adopted a Tabby cat named Willow, on Twitter, on Friday.

“Willow made quite an impression on Dr. Biden in 2020 when she jumped up on the stage and interrupted her remarks during a campaign stop. Seeing their immediate bond, the owner of the farm knew that Willow belonged with Dr. Biden,” Michael LaRosa, the first lady’s spokesman, said in a news release.

Willow is a 2-year-old grey and white Tabby with green eyes and was born in western Pennsylvania. The cat is named after the first lady’s hometown of Willow Grove, Pa. The cat will be the White House’s first since President George W. Bush and First Lady Laura Bush’s black cat, India.

Willow now lives in the White House with Bidens’ German shepherd, Major, who was adopted in 2018, and a German shepherd puppy, Commander, who came in December of last year.

While dogs have been more frequent residents of the White House, cats have also been around. Other White House pets in the past have included hamsters, raccoons, and birds. Only President Trump was the first president in nearly a century to not to have a pet.
