FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact-checked the viral image and found it to be shared with a false claim.

With the help of Reverse Image Search, we found this image in a tweet by a user named Fake History Hunter who has over 138k followers on the social messaging platform.

The user shared the image along with another image with the caption saying, “No, this is not an abandoned village in Scotland. This is a movie-set for the film ‘Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters’ at Babelberg filmpark in Germany. It’s less than 10 years old.”

Taking a hint from this, we ran a search and found user comments on an Imgur post stating that the image shows visuals of ‘Hansel and Gretel’ movie set in Babelsberg Filmpark, Germany.

We checked and found images of the movie set on the Art Department Studio Babelsberg website. As per Babelsberg official website, they were one of the production companies that contributed to making Hansel and Gretel in 2011.

A spokeswoman from the Babelsberg company told to the AFP that the viral image showed a set built for the film. “This is a scene from the Hansel and Gretel set, built for the movie by Tommy Wirkola in 2011,” AFP quoted the spokesperson as saying.

Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters” is a 2013 film that is a dark adaptation of the fairytale. The official trailer of the film can be watched here.

Therefore, it can be concluded the image is viral with a false claim.
