Fact Check: Does The Viral Image Show A Russian Aircraft Downed By Ukraine? Here’s The Truth

As Russia launched a military operation in Ukraine on February 24, 2022, an image of a burning fighter jet is widely being shared on social media with a claim that it shows Russian Aircraft which was shot down by Ukraine.

The image is being shared with a caption that reads, “6th downed Russian combat aircraft”

FACT CHECK

NewsMobile did a fact-check and found the claim to be fake.

On doing a Google Reverse Image Search, we found that the same video was uploaded by PeakPx HD with the caption that read, “Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-29S Fulcrum (925), Eject, Fulcrum, Russian, Mikoyan-Gurevich, MiG-29S, HD wallpaper.”

Another website, Air Team Images also uploaded the same image. The website mentioned that the photograph was clicked on July 24, 1993. The description associated with the image read, “The first of a sequence of photos of the mid air collision between two Russian Mig 29s. No one was killed or seriously injured in the incident. The pilot can be seen ejecting.”

Hence, an old image of 1993 is being widely shared with a fake claim that its shows Ukraine shooting down a Russian jet.
