Fact Check: Old Video Viral With Claim That Russia Making Moves In ‘America’s Backyard’

Amid the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine, a CNN video is widely being shared claiming that Russia is in America’s backyard thereby hinting that Russia is going to attack America now. The text embedded in the video reads, “Putin making military moves in America’s backyard.”

The post is being shared with a caption that reads, “Putin making military moves in America’s backyard Putin is at America’s doorstep. Russia flies nuclear-capable bombers at Carrabian with Venezuela forces. Putin is the most powerful leadership of the world. Long live Putin’s resistance.”

NewsMobile did a fact-check and found the claim to be fake.

On doing a Google Reverse Image Search we found a Twitter user had shared the post with the caption that read, “One clip uploaded to Facebook has over 15,000 shares and 1.9 million views. It shows a CNN report on Russian military drills with Venezuelan forces over the Caribbean – but it’s not recent! ” The post further mentioned that the YouTube link mentioning that the CNN report was of December 2018.

We further found that CNN had uploaded the same video on December 12, 2018, with a title: “Russian bomber touches down on America’s doorstep.” The description associated with the image read, “Russian President Vladimir Putin is on America’s doorstep in Venezuela with nuclear-capable bombers that can fly twice the speed of sound. CNN’s Brian Todd reports.”
