Union Cabinet Gives Nod To Merge Delhi Municipal Corporation

Date:

The centre has merged three municipalities in the national capital namely North, South, East into one under the Delhi Municipal Corporation Amendment Act 2022. The amendment is likely to be presented in the ongoing Parliaments budget session.

The plea was filed after the Delhi State Election Commission indefinitely deferred the MCD elections citing a communication from the Lt. Governor,  that the Center was intending to pass legislation to merge the three Municipal Corporations of Delhi.

However, AAP was appearing to be a tough candidate in this civic body election which was being ruled by the BJP for the past 15 years.

Adesh Gupta from BJP welcomed the decision taken by the Center. He said that this move will strengthen the Municipal Corporation and it will function more efficiently in the future.

Aam Aadmi Party leader Atishi in a press conference said that PM Modi is “scared” of CM Arvind Kejriwal. She further added that BJP is scared to face AAP due to the symbolic win they had in Punjab. She also claimed that if the MCD election would take place then AAP will easily win more than 250 seats in the election.
