Fact Check: Old Video Of Scuffle Between Pak Lawmakers Viral As Recent

Amid the ongoing political turmoil in Pakistan, a video of lawmakers engaged in a brawl is being circulated online with a claim that this is how MPs were fighting ahead of the no-confidence motion against Imran Khan.

A user shared the video with the text, “Fresh visuals from #Pakistan National Assembly ahead of #NoConfidenceMotion. MPs are kicking and punching each other. This is what #ImranKhan gave to Pakistan #PTIGovernment Section 144.”

NewsMobile fact-checked the post and found the video to be old.

Since the video had the logo of Kanak News, we scanned through their channel and found that the same video was shared by their YouTube channel on March 4, 2021, with the title, “Kick Punches Between Leaders In Pakistan’s Sindh Assembly.”

We then ran a keyword search and found that the same was reported by Pakistani media outlets Ary News and Geo News on March 2, 2021. The title of the video read, “The darkest day in the history of Sindh Assembly, PPP MPA’s fights with PTI minister …”
