Fact Check: Did Mohan Bhagwat Tweet Lauding PM Modi’s Working Hours? Here Is The Truth

A tweet purportedly by RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat lauding the working hours of Prime Minister Narendra Modi is widely being shared on social media.

The text in Hindi reads, “आप एक घंटा मनोरंजन करने वाले अभिनेता को सराह सकते हैं, एक खिलाड़ी जो सिर्फ 6-7 घंटा दिन में खेलता है उसको आइकॉन बना सकते हैं तो हमारे प्रधानमंत्री जी जो 67 साल की उम्र में देश के लिए 15-16 घंटे काम करते हैं उनको अपना आदर्श क्यों नहीं मान सकते. वन्देमातरम्.”

(English translation, “You can appreciate an actor who entertains for an hour, a player who plays only 6-7 hours in a day can make him an icon, then our Prime Minister, who at the age of 67, works 15-16 hours for the country. Why can’t you consider them your role model? Vande Mataram.”)

FACT CHECK

NewsMobile did a fact check and found the claim to be fake.

On closely observing the Tweet, we found that the Twitter handle mentioned in the screenshot was @MohanBhagwat_. We searched for the mentioned Twitter handle and found it to be a parody account. The bio of the Twitter handle read, “Mohan Bhagwat ji is the Sarsanghchalak (Chief) of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS).Fans Club. Parody. Managed by fans. This is a fake account of @DrMohanBhagwat

We also found that the viral Tweet was done from the parody account on March 11, 2019.

We found that the original Twitter handle of Mohan Bhagwat is @DrMohanBhagwat. Also, we did not find any such tweet done by Mohan Bhagwat from his official Twitter handle.

Thus, we can ascertain that the viral tweet in question was not done by RSS Chief, Mohan Bhagwat.
