FACT CHECK
We fact-checked the post and found the claim to be misleading.
We put the image through a Reverse Image Search and found that the same image was shared by the official Twitter account of the Indian National Congress on May 1, 2017. As per the image caption, the picture shows a tribal worker Budhni Mejhan pressing the button to inaugurate the Panchet Dam (now in Jharkhand) in 1959.
The caption of the post read, “Budhni Mejhan, a tribal worker at Panchet Dam who was asked by Pt Nehru to press the button & inaugurate the dam’s operation, 1959.”
The same image was also published in a report by The Hindu dated 2012. The image was captioned, “SWITCHED ON, SWITCHED OFF: Budhni inaugurating the power station at the Panchet dam in December 1959. Photo: Nehru Memorial Museum And Library, New Delhi.”
Moreover, we found that Atomic Energy Establishment, Trombay (AEET) was established by Dr Homi J. Bhabha on 3 January 1954. However, after the demise of Dr Homi Bhabha in 1966, the centre was renamed Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) on 22 January 1967.
Hence, from the above information, it is clear that the viral image is being shared with a misleading narrative.
