New Delhi: Former Japanese Prime Minister, Shinzo Abe, passed away at the age of 67 after he was shot on Friday in the city of Nara.

Shinzo Abe was shot during a speech in the city of Nara, in western Japan.

    • Abe was conscious when he was taken to the hospital, but shows no vital signs.
    • The fire department says that Abe is showing no vital signs. Police sources say he was likely hit from behind by the shotgun fire.

  • Police arrested 41-year-old Yamagami Tetsuya in Nara City for allegedly attempting murder.
  • An NHK reporter on-site heard something that sounded like a gunshot and saw Abe bleeding.
  • Reportedly, Abe was attacked by a man from behind while he was making a stump speech on a street in Nara on Friday.
  • The Police held the man who attacked Abe at around 11.30 am (local time)
  • Abe, 67, Japan’s longest-serving prime minister, held office in 2006 for one year and again from 2012 to 2020 when he was forced to step down due to the debilitating bowel condition ulcerative colitis.
