Kolkata: The Trinamool Congress has suspended Partha Chatterjee from all the posts he held in the party on Thursday after being removed from the cabinet.
TMC leader Abhishek Banerjee said that “Partha Chatterjee has been removed from TMC along with the post of General Secretary, National vice president & three other posts. He has been suspended till the investigation is underway. He can come back if proven not guilty.
He further added that “There will be zero tolerance for corruption. Investigating agency must complete the probe within the time limit. ”
Earlier, chief minister Mamata Banerjee sacked Minister Partha Chatterjee on Thursday who was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate in connection with the SSC scam.
Mamata Banerjee in a letter to the head of departments added that minister Partha Chatterjee “is relieved from his duties as minister in-charge” with immediate effect from 28th July.
Earlier, ED recovered close to 50 crores in cash from different locations from the premises of Arpita Mukherjee, an alleged close aide of the Minister. ED further took the Minister into custody and the investigation and raids continue in the matter.
Earlier, Mamata Banerjee in a statement said that “If someone has been involved in wrong activities, none of us will interfere no matter how harsh a verdict they face. We will not support them”.
She further added that a verdict should be given based on the truth, within a given time frame and if someone is found guilty then “I do not mind if they are punished with life imprisonment.”
