ED Conducts Searches In Several Locations In National Herald Case

Date:

New Delhi: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Tuesday carried out searches at multiple locations in the national capital and other parts of the country in connection with the National Herald case.

The searches were conducted soon after ED interrogated Congress interim chief Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi in connection with the case. The National Herald case pertains to investigating the alleged financial irregularities under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).

The questioning of Sonia Gandhi led to a nationwide protest by the Congress Party with leaders being detained by Delhi Police. ED has earlier carried out three rounds of questioning with the Congress chief in connection with the matter.

The petitioner had approached the court alleging that the assets of Associated Journals Limited (AJL), which published the National Herald newspaper, were fraudulently acquired and transferred to Young Indian Pvt Limited (YIL), in which Sonia Gandhi and her son Rahul Gandhi allegedly owned 38 percent shares each.
