Fact Check: Viral Picture Falsely Claims To Have Ex-UP Minister With President Murmu

Date:

Droupadi Murmu became President of India on July 25, 2022. She is the first tribal woman to hold the highest post in the Indian Constitution.

On June 21, 2022, a letter of resignation purportedly written by Dinesh Khatik, Water Resources Minister of Uttar Pradesh, to Home Minister Amit Shah, went viral. According to the letter, he resigned from his post due to unfair treatment by officers at his Jal Shakti department as he was a Dalit.

In the above background, an image of Droupadi Murmu with a man has gone viral, claiming that the man in the picture is Dinesh Khatik and he has submitted his resignation to the President.

The image is shared with a caption: “ഈ ജൂലൈ 20-ന് യോഗി ആദിത്യനാഥ് മന്ത്രിസഭയിലെ ജലവിഭവവകുപ്പ് മന്ത്രി ദിനേശ് ഖാത്തിക് തന്റെ മന്ത്രി സ്ഥാനം വലിച്ചെറിഞ്ഞ് യോഗി മന്ത്രിസഭയിൽ നിന്ന് പടിയിറങ്ങിപ്പോകുമ്പോൾ വളരെ വേദനയോടെ ജനങ്ങളോട് പറഞ്ഞത് ഇതായിരുന്നു : ”ദലിത് ആയതുകൊണ്ടാണ് മന്ത്രിസഭയിൽ എന്നെ മാറ്റിനിർത്തുന്നത്. (English translation: “On July 20, Dinesh Khatik, Minister of Water Resources in Yogi Adityanath’s cabinet, threw away his ministerial position, saying: “Because I am a Dalit, I am kept aside in the Cabinet. I have no authority as a minister. I have not attended any Cabinet meeting so far. No one has asked anything about my department. This is tantamount to insulting the Dalit community itself..!”)
