Bilkis Bano Case: NHRC To Discuss Convicts’ Release On Monday

Date:

New Delhi: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has scheduled to bring up the subject of the release of 11 convicts sentenced to life imprisonment in the Bilkis Bano gang rape case.

According to a report by The Sunday Express, NHRC has taken up the matter for “discussion” and was confirmed by the office of NHRC chairperson Justice Arun Mishra.

The convicts were released from the Godhra sub-jail under the Gujarat Government’s remission policy on 15th August.

Earlier in 2008, a special CBI court in Mumbai sentenced the eleven accused to life imprisonment for gang rape and murder of seven members of Bilkis Bano’s family.

The NHRC had earlier made a crucial intervention in the case and assisted the victim to approach the Supreme Court after the case was closed by the Gujarat Police.
