Fact Check: Viral BBC Tweet About Bramhastra Cast Donating Funds for Pak Floods Is Fabricated

Date:

A news update, purportedly tweeted by the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) Hindi, claims that Bramhastra stars Alia Bhatt and Ranbir Kapoor have contributed ₹1 crore each to flood-hit Pakistan, and Bollywood director Karan Johar donated ₹5 crore. It further says that if their movie is successful, they will contribute ₹51 crore.

Here’s the link to the above post.

FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact-checked the above claim, and found it to be FALSE.

We did a keyword search, but could not find any credible media report that corroborated the viral claim. Had the cast of Bramhastra made such an announcement, mainstream media would have definitely covered it.

Even through a Twitter keyword search, we were unable to find any such tweet by the BBC News Hindi

However, we found a tweet by BBC News Hindi that busted the viral claim stating: “FAKE NEWS ALERT A fake tweet about Pakistan’s floods and Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt’s film Brahmastra is being shared on social media in the name of BBC Hindi. This tweet is fake, and no such tweet or such news has been made by BBC Hindi.”

Thus, is evident that a fake tweet is shared as the cast of Bramhastra will donate money to Pakistan floods.
