Fact Check: Post from a Parody Account Viral as Real Tweet By Delhi Waqf Board

Date:

The screenshot of a tweet, purportedly shared by the Delhi Waqf Board, is doing the rounds on social media. As per the tweet, most of the railway lines are built on the land of tomb. Therefore, the Delhi Waqf Board will file a case in SC to take back the land.

Facebook users are sharing the tweet with the text: “दिल्ली वक्फ बोर्ड जल्द ही रेलवे पर अपने कब्जे के लिए सुप्रीम कोर्ट में मामला दर्ज करायेगा मेरे हिसाब से बस ये कहना बाकी रह गया की पूरा हिन्दुस्तान वक्फ बोर्ड का है।” (English translation: The Delhi Waqf Board will soon file a case in the Supreme Court for its possession of the Railways. According to me, all it remains to say that the whole of India belongs to Waqf Board.)

FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact-checked the post, and found it to be fake.

Checking the official Twitter Handle of the Delhi Waqf Board, we found that the account is not verified. But the viral screenshot has a verified tick.

We then noticed the text ‘OkSatire’ on top of the viral screenshots that are being circulated.

We also found a Facebook page with the same name. As per the page bio, it is a parody account that shares ‘Parody Tweets That seems Real’.

Scanning through the page, we found that it has shared multiple fake tweets attributed to Prime Minister Modi and several media organisations amongst others.

A viral screenshot attributed to Delhi Waqf Board also had been shared on the page on September 19, 2022.

Thus, it is clear that the tweet is not real and the post is false.
