Fact Check: Did Rahul Gandhi Forget To Turn On His Mic While Speaking In MP? Here’s the Truth

Date:

The Madhya Pradesh leg of the Bharat Jodo Yatra started when Rahul Gandhi entered the state on November 23, 2022, from Maharashtra. As the movement reaches its final leg in the state, a viral video mocking Rahul Gandhi for speaking with the microphone turned off at an event is doing the rounds on social media.

A Facebook user posted the viral video with a caption: इसे कहते है जज्बा माइक बंद है लेकिन बंदे ने कॉमेडी बंद नहीं किया (English translation: It’s called passion The mike is off but the guy didn’t stop the comedy.)

You can check the video here.

FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact-checked the viral video, and found it to be misleading.

Running a Google Keyword Search of the viral video, we identified a tweet published by ANI on November 27, 2022. According to the tweet, Rahul Gandhi accused the Central government of turning off their microphones in both the Houses of Parliament whenever they tried to raise an issue related to GST, demonetisation, or corruption. Gandhi said all this during his Bharat Jodo Yatra rally in Indore.

Conducting a YouTube keyword search, we identified a livestream video, titled: Rahul Gandhi Full Speech | Indore | Rau | Madhya Pradesh | राहुल गांधी भाषण | Bharat Jodo Yatra, dated November 27, 2022.

The video was shot from a front angle. At 4:42 we can see Rahul Gandhi speak about how the government turns off their microphones when they try to speak for the farmers, inflation, GST, etc. He then turns off the microphone himself to show how they sound in the Lok Sabha without the microphone on. Even though the video is from a front angle, we can match his attire and hand gestures to the viral video.

We found the same video published on the official YouTube channel of TV9 Bharatvarsh as well.

Therefore, it is clear that the viral video claiming Rahul Gandhi speaking in a rally without turning on his microphone is misleading.
