Fact Check: Does This Video Show NDRF Team Landing with Relief Material in Turkey? Here’s the Truth

Date:

After a devastating earthquake rocked Turkey and Syria on February 6, killing at least 37,000 people, several nations across the world stood forward and offered their help in the rescue and relief activities there. The Indian government has also dispatched specialised troops as part of ‘Operation Dost’ to assist in the rescue operations in Turkey and Syria.

Against this backdrop, a video showing some men wearing NDRF uniforms descending from a chopper is widely shared on social media. According to the post, the NDRF squad flew into Turkey to take part in the rescue and relief activities.

The video is shared on Facebook with a caption: “#NDRF relief team has successfully landed to #Turkey hopefully in this hard time India will help them a lot, Jai Hind”

FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact-checked the above claim and found it to be Misleading.

We discovered that several people had pointed out in the comments that the viral video was actually a clip from a training exercise and not related to the Turkey earthquake.

Performing a Reverse Image Search on keyframes extracted from the viral video, we identified a YouTube page carrying the same video on July 8, 2021, with a caption: “#NDRF training video”.

While people and supplies for rescue operations in Turkey and Syria have been transported by Air Force aircraft, the viral video shows a helicopter which cannot be seen in any official government handles.

Thus, it is evident that an old video is falsely linked to a recent rescue operation by the Indian government in earthquake-hit Turkey.
