Fact Check: Viral Video of a Man Brutally Beaten Is from Punjab, NOT Bulandshahr

A video showing some people brutally beating a man is widely shared on social media. Sharing this video, people claim that the father was beaten to death by two sons over a family dispute in Bulandshahr of Uttar Pradesh. 

The video is shared on Facebook with the caption, “परिवारिक कलह में दो बेटों ने अपने पिता को उतारा मौत के घाट* बुलंदशहर अगौता थाना क्षेत्र के अंतर्गत गांव अकबरपुर रैना में दो कलयुगी बेटे द्वारा परिवारिक कलह के चलते अपने ही पिता को पीट-पीटकर हत्या करने का मामला सामने आया है। जानकारी के अनुसार मृतक सतीश पुत्र छज्जू सिंह को उसके दोनो बेटों राहुल,पोरस ने एक अन्य साथी के साथ मिलकर बुरी तरह लाठी डंडो से पीट दिया।जिससे सतीश बुरी तरह गंभीर रूप से घायल हो गए,घटना की सूचना पाकर अगौता थाना प्रभारी जितेंद्र सिंह अपनी टीम के साथ मौके पर पहुंचे,जिसके बाद पुलिस द्वारा उन्हें आनन-फानन में जिला अस्पताल पहुंचाया गया। जहां उपचार के दौरान सतीश की मौत हो गई। घटना के बाद मामले की जांच में जुटी अगौता पुलिस” (English translation: Two sons killed their father in family discord in Akbarpur Raina village under the Bulandshahar Agauta police station area. According to the report, “In Punjab’s Sunam, an incident of brutal thrashing of a person has come to light. The video of this heart-wrenching incident has gone viral on social media and people are raising questions after seeing this heart-wrenching incident. In the viral video, some people are mercilessly beating a person.”

According to local Punjabi reports, the police have registered a case against six accused in this matter. An accused has also been arrested.

The official Twitter handle of Sangrur police also tweeted regarding this matter. The tweet reads: “One video of Sunam is going viral on social media platforms in which one person is being beaten mercilessly by 4 persons along with others. In this incident, an FIR 29 dated 15/02/23 under 307, 323,324,325,506,148,149 IPC had been registered against 6 accused in PS City Sunam.” 

On February 25, the Bulandshahr police also tweeted and informed that the viral video of the man being thrashed is not related to Bulandshahr. It further said this video has nothing to do with the incident that took place on February 23 in the Agouta police station area.

In Bulandshahr, two youths killed their father by beating him with a stick. At the time of the incident, the old man had loaded sugarcane in a tractor trolley and went to put it on the crusher. The reason for this incident is being told as a domestic dispute. On receiving the information, the police reached the spot and registered a case of murder against both the sons and the brother-in-law of one of them. Police have arrested a son. This incident is of Akbarpur Raina village in the Agauta police station area of ​​Bulandshahr.

Thus, it is evident that the viral video of a man brutally beaten is from Punjab and not Bulandshahr.
