Pune: Amid speculations over the next move of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), senior leader Ajit Pawar said “Why 2024, even now I aspire to become the chief minister.”

In an interview with Sakal Media Group, the Leader of the Opposition in the State Assembly Ajit Pawar said that he will “100 per cent” like to be the chief minister of Maharashtra.

He claimed that he heard that CM Eknath Shinde was “unhappy and something was going in his mind” before his rebellion against the Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena.

On the question of whether the NCP will stake claim to the Chief Minister’s post in 2024, he said “Why 2024, we are ready to stake a claim for the Chief Minister position now also.”

Earlier on Friday, Ajit Pawar missed the party’s Mumbai unit meet which led to speculations over his next political move and sparked rumors of a rift between the leaders.

When asked about his aspirations to become the Chief Minister, Pawar said “Yes, I would 100 per cent like to be.”
