Performing a Reverse Image Search, we found several YouTube channels carrying the same viral video in March 2023.
The caption of the video can be translated into the English language as “The political parties are desperate to strengthen their party ahead of the upcoming parliamentary elections. In continuation of that, the general workers of Ward Awami League are disappointed that such a person Habibur Rahman (Btu) has been made the member secretary of the 2nd ward Awami League conference preparation committee under Satkhira Municipality. Several leaders and workers of Ward Awami League said that if such a person is in an important position in Trinamool, the image of the party will be damaged and the party will be empty.”
We found out that Awami League is a political party in Bangladesh.
Searching further, we found the same video uploaded on the Facebook page of a news organisation based in Bangladesh.
According to the video caption posted on March 20, 2023, “Satkhira Bulletin: Desperate to rebuild the political parties keeping the next National Parliamentary election ahead. With his continuation, the general workers of Ward Awami League are disappointed as Habibur Rahman (Bitu) made a member secretary of the conference preparation committee of the 2 no. ward Awami league under Satkhira municipality. If such a person stays in an important position in Trinamool, the image of the party will be diminished and the workers will become zero, says multiple leaders and workers of the Ward Awami League.’
We also found several news reports published on the same incident in March 2023. According to one article, “An old woman was beaten while trying to take a MP’s saree, the video went viral.”
According to a report by Bangladesh’s daily Jugantor, dated April 2, 2023, Nazrul Islam, the current district president of Awami League and chairman of Zila Parishad for Satkhira, commented on the same incident. Islam stated that he was aware of the video that went viral on social media, and claimed that it was quite old. The woman in the video was identified as Margina Begam, wife of Babul, a resident of the Majitpur area in the town of Satkhira. She was allegedly struck three times on the head by Habibur Rahman (Bitu) and given a saree during the incident.
Thus, it is evident from the above information that the viral video is from Bangladesh, and not related to the Karnataka elections.
