NEET Exams Postponed In Manipur Amid Violence, Top Updates

Imphal: Amid the incidents of violence reported in Manipur, the NEET (UG)-2023 exam has been postponed for the candidates who were allotted examination Centres in Manipur on Saturday.

  • MoS Education Dr. Rajkumar Ranjan Singh had written to NTA (National Testing Agency), requesting them to “explore the possibility of rescheduling” the exam, in the wake of the situation in Manipur.
  • He said, “In Manipur, because of the current situation, students cannot appear for NEET (UG)-2023 exam because of broadband and internet connectivity issues.”
  • He further added “I requested the NTA to reschedule or postpone the exam for exam centres in the state. NTA has circulated a notification about the postponement of the exam at centres in Manipur.”
  • Amid the violence, a PTI gathering several sources quoted that the death count has reached 54 in the valley.
  • An all-party meeting is underway in the state. The meeting, being chaired by CM N. Biren Singh, is being attended by political parties including Congress, NPF, NPP, CPM, Aam Aadmi Party, and Shiv Sena.
  • Meanwhile, Union Law Minister Kiren Rijiju said that Centre is taking all possible steps to reduce the violence in Manipur and bring the state back to normalcy.
  • He said “The centre and Home Minister are taking steps to end the violence. The Home Minister is continuously monitoring the situation in Manipur.”
  • Internet services remain suspended and curfew imposed in violence-affected regions and security forces deployed in Manipur after clashes between communities residing in hills and plains districts.
