FACT CHECK
NewsMobile fact-checked the viral post, and found it to be misleading.
Running a Reverse Image Search of the video keyframes, we spotted a Facebook post, dated August 5, 2022, on an unverified account. To our surprise, many posts during that period had carried the same video, suggesting that it has been online since 2022.
Another article, dated August 8, 2022, on the website of Organiser — a mouthpiece of Hindutva organisation Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, says: DMK government’s attempt to demolish a temple has been halted by Hindu unity in Tamil Nadu.
The pictures in the article match a few keyframes of the viral clip and the date of publishing of the article indicates that the incident happened almost a year ago.
An article from The Hindu informs that the Madras High Court ordered the demolition of the Suyambu Thamburam Swamy Temple as it was obstructing the 50-feet wide Veeriyampalayam road, which was creating traffic congestion in that area.
It further states that the demolition was opposed by the devotees and members of the temple committee, who moved to High Court to raise an appeal against the order, due to which the encroachment was halted.
Therefore, we can conclusively say that the viral post, claiming that Tamil Nadu government recently withdrew an order to demolish a Shiva Temple in Coimbatore, is misleading.
